The journal
What JNDC is, in concrete terms.
Journal of New Developments in Chemistry (JNDC) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal of the chemical sciences, published by Open Access Pub under ISSN 2377-2549. Its first issue appeared in April 2014, and it has issued articles under that ISSN since.
Journal of New Developments in Chemistry considers original research, reviews, short communications and technical notes that make a clear, supported advance in chemical knowledge, methods, materials, measurement or molecular-level explanation. In every case, chemistry must be the central scholarly contribution.
Subject fit and scientific reliability are separate considerations. An in-scope topic still requires evidence proportionate to its claims.
Authors should provide the characterization, methods and validation needed to assess the stated contribution, with relevant limitations. A complete molecular mechanism is not required for every kind of study; conclusions must be supported by evidence appropriate to the contribution.
Why it exists
The scholarly purpose the journal serves.
JNDC provides a scholarly record for experimental, theoretical and computational work on the composition, preparation, structure, transformations, properties, measurement and interactions of chemical substances and materials.
Research may address a fundamental question or a defined application in the laboratory, industry, environment or biological systems. New synthesis, reliable chemical measurements, molecular design, structure–activity relationships and advances in chemical processes can all provide a substantive contribution. Supporting methods and data should allow the claims to be evaluated.
Open access follows from the same reasoning. Work that cannot be read cannot be reused, so every article is free to read from the day it is published, and free to redistribute and adapt with attribution.
The journal covers organic and synthetic chemistry; inorganic and coordination chemistry; physical chemistry and spectroscopy; analytical chemistry and measurement science; materials, polymer and nanochemistry; computational and theoretical chemistry; medicinal chemistry and chemical biology; and energy, environment and sustainable chemistry.
Coverage also includes natural products and food chemistry; forensic and toxicological chemistry; industrial, process and formulation chemistry; and supramolecular, surface and interface chemistry. The scientific contribution determines fit; these examples are not exhaustive.
Clinical outcomes, patient-care protocols, epidemiological surveys and diagnostic-performance studies are outside scope when their principal contribution is medical and lacks substantive chemical or analytical development. Chemistry-led biomedical research may fit; a complete molecular mechanism is not required for every study. Detailed coverage and boundaries are set out on the aims and scope page.
Who the journal serves
The journal is written for the chemist who intends to reproduce the work, not only to cite it. Several communities meet in it, and each reads the others.
- Synthetic chemists
- Route design and stereochemical strategy. Preparative and process chemists, carbohydrate and nucleoside chemists, and organometallic and catalysis groups reporting routes complete with the conditions under which they were run.
- Analytical chemists
- Measurement that can be transferred. Method developers working in chromatography, hyphenated mass spectrometry, spectroscopic and resonance characterization, titrimetry and electrochemical determination, where the validation is part of the contribution.
- Materials researchers
- Structure, and the behavior that follows from it. Groups working on functional solids, doped semiconductor nanocrystals, framework and perovskite materials, polymers, surfaces and interfaces.
- Computational and theoretical chemists
- Models addressing chemical questions. Electronic-structure and molecular-simulation studies, cheminformatics, and modeling that explains or predicts structure, spectra and reactivity, with verification or validation suited to the claims.
- Medicinal chemists and chemical biologists
- Chemistry in biological systems. Molecular design and synthesis, structure–activity relationships, chemical probes, enzyme chemistry, molecular toxicology and biological evaluation that supports a substantive chemical advance.
- Applied and environmental chemists
- Chemistry that has to hold outside the laboratory. Trace determination in water, soil and air, corrosion and materials protection, separation and process chemistry, and work that lowers the hazard or the waste of an established procedure.
- Editors and reviewers
- Subject expertise, named. The board numbers 69 members in 22 countries, and members handle manuscripts in their own areas. Chemists willing to review are invited to contact the editorial office.

Review
Every submission is read by an editor before it goes anywhere else. All submissions undergo initial editorial screening, and manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. They are taken by the handling editor and the Editor-in-Chief, and they are independent of fees, of membership, and of any role a person holds at the journal or at its publisher. The Editor-in-Chief is Zhe-Sheng Chen, Professor at St. John's University, United States (ORCID 0000-0002-8289-097X).
Integrity of the record
The journal aligns with COPE guidance. Submissions are screened for originality; every empirical research manuscript must carry a data-availability statement; and images, spectra and data visualizations must represent the underlying data accurately, with original files available to editors on request. Where an error is identified after publication, the journal issues a correction, an expression of concern or a retraction as a citable, linked notice, and the original article remains available.
Access and rights
Articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal permission to publish. Every registered article is deposited with Crossref and carries a DOI under the prefix 10.14302. There is no reader charge and no embargo.

Of the 56 records published to date, 48 are original research articles, six are reviews, one is a brief report and one is an editorial. All are free to read in full, without subscription or registration. Browse every issue.

- Where the work comes from
- Authors have published from institutions across Europe, Africa and Asia, among them the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Umgeni Water in South Africa, Mangalore University in India, the Atomic Energy Authority in Egypt and Tripoli University in Libya.
- Article types
- The record is predominantly full research articles, with reviews, brief reports and editorials alongside them. Preparation requirements for current submission formats are given in the instructions for authors.
- Availability
- Full text and figures are available from the day of publication under CC BY 4.0, with no subscription, no registration and no embargo, and every registered article resolves through its Crossref DOI.
