Data Archiving & Permissions
Ensuring transparency and reproducibility in global health research.
Promoting Research Transparency
IJGH encourages authors to share supporting data and materials to enhance the reproducibility of published research.
1. Data Availability Statements
All empirical manuscripts must include a Data Availability Statement:
- "De-identified data available at [repository URL]."
- "Data available from corresponding author upon reasonable request."
- "Data cannot be shared due to local ethics board restrictions."
2. Recommended Repositories
General Purpose
Figshare, Zenodo, Dryad, Harvard Dataverse
Health-Specific
ICPSR, WHO Global Health Observatory, DHS Program
3. Ethical Considerations
Global health research often involves vulnerable populations:
- Ensure proper de-identification before sharing
- Consider local data governance requirements
- Obtain appropriate permissions from ethics boards
- Respect community ownership of indigenous knowledge
4. Third-Party Permissions
If your manuscript includes previously published figures or data, obtain written permission from the copyright holder and include appropriate attribution.
