Why work with us
Open Access Pub (OAP) exists to make scholarship freely available, with no charges to readers and articles licensed under CC BY 4.0. Working here means contributing to that mission every day, alongside colleagues who care about the integrity and accessibility of the scholarly record.
- Mission-driven open-access publishing, with author-retained copyright and free public access.
- An international, largely remote team that collaborates across time zones.
- Exposure to a broad portfolio of 198 peer-reviewed journals across many disciplines.
- The chance to learn the full breadth of scholarly publishing technology, from JATS XML production to Crossref DOI registration and indexing.
Where we work
OAP works with an international team that is largely remote, supported by volunteer academic editors and peer reviewers worldwide. In the United States we maintain a presence in Valley Cottage, New York and Rancho Cordova, California.
Areas we hire in
We periodically look for talented people across the following role families. Specific responsibilities depend on the team and the work at hand.
Editorial
Managing and associate editors and editorial assistants who shepherd manuscripts through the editorial workflow and uphold our standards.
Peer-review coordination
Coordinators who manage reviewer invitations, track reports, and keep the peer-review process fair, rigorous, and well documented.
Production & typesetting
Production specialists, copy-editors, and proofreaders who prepare HTML, PDF, and JATS XML versions of the record.
Software & web development
Developers who build and maintain the submission, publishing, and hosting platforms that keep our content available and durable.
Indexing & metadata
Metadata specialists handling Crossref DOI registration, OAI harvesting, and indexing deposits that make research discoverable.
Marketing & author outreach
Outreach and communications colleagues who connect authors and readers with our journals and the work we publish.
Volunteer & academic roles
Beyond paid positions, much of scholarly publishing depends on the generosity of the academic community. These roles are scholarly contributions and are typically unpaid.
- Editorial Board membership — shaping a journal's scope, advising on policy, and helping uphold editorial standards.
- Reviewer panel — providing independent, constructive peer review within your field of expertise.
