Metadata registration
Crossref receives bibliographic metadata from the publisher. Registration does not evaluate the journal’s scientific standing.
Discovery service
Search engines and scholarly graphs gather records from multiple sources. Their coverage may be incomplete or delayed.
Article-level repository deposit
Eligible NIH-funded manuscripts may be deposited individually in PubMed Central through NIHMS. An individual deposit does not indicate journal-level PMC, PubMed or MEDLINE indexing.
Digital preservation
Preservation services retain publication content for long-term access. Preservation status is separate from identifiers, discovery services and selective indexing.
Selective indexing
Selective databases apply their own journal-evaluation and coverage criteria. Inclusion must be checked in the database’s current source list and is not implied by discovery elsewhere.
Counts describe different datasets. A publisher archive, Crossref and OpenAlex may report different totals because they ingest and classify records differently. The journal should not present those totals as interchangeable.
