JAA publishes research on antioxidant activity, oxidative stress, redox mechanisms and antioxidant defense, including chemical, computational, biological, food, nutritional, pharmacological and clinical research.

Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year.

Research JAA is seeking

The central fit test is a substantive antioxidant, oxidative-stress or redox question. The contribution may be laboratory-based, computational, clinical, population-based or a synthesis of existing evidence; a new assay is not required for every article.

Assay chemistry

DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, ORAC and related systems; calibration, endpoint definition, equivalence units, comparison and validation.

Extraction and phytochemistry

Material identity, plant part, solvent and conditions, constituent characterization and links between composition and measured activity.

Redox biology

Reactive species, enzymatic and non-enzymatic defense, mitochondrial systems, redox signaling and biomarkers of damage or repair.

Food and nutrition

Food chemistry, processing and storage, dietary exposure, supplementation, absorption and metabolism, including intervention and observational research.

Pharmacology and clinical research

Antioxidant candidates, toxicology, redox interventions and preclinical or clinical studies of efficacy and safety with conclusions appropriate to the evidence.

Computational research and synthesis

Models with appropriate validation and uncertainty, critical reviews and quantitative evidence synthesis. Sound replication and negative-result studies also contribute.

Match the claim to the evidence

Evidence may be chemical or analytical, computational, cellular or biochemical, animal or preclinical, human or clinical, and population or observational. An assay value or computational prediction alone does not establish a biological mechanism or clinical benefit.

Chemical assayReport the named system, conditions, endpoint, calibration range, reference standard and units.
Computational studiesDescribe the model, assumptions and input data; report appropriate validation, uncertainty and applicability limits. Distinguish predictions from experimentally established effects.
Cells and mechanismsDefine exposure, viability, controls and replication; test causal claims rather than treating association as mechanism.
Animal modelsConnect dose, exposure, model relevance, welfare approval and redox outcomes, and limit inference to humans.
Human and clinical studiesUse appropriate comparators, prespecified outcomes, safety reporting and trial registration where applicable.
Population and observational studiesDefine exposures, outcomes and analysis; address confounding, measurement error and selection bias. Association does not establish causation.

Evidence boundary

Detox, immunity, anti-aging, disease-prevention or therapeutic claims require direct evidence at the level claimed. Product promotion and consumer-wellness advertising are outside scope.

Current article types

Original Research

Analytical, experimental, computational, preclinical, clinical or observational studies with a substantive antioxidant or redox question, including appropriately designed clinical trials.

Reviews and Evidence Synthesis

Critical reviews, mini-reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analyses with a defined question and transparent evidence selection and interpretation.

Methods and Protocols

Assays, analytical approaches and tools supported by validation or benchmarking appropriate to their intended use; and study protocols with a clear rationale, complete planned methodology and analysis.

Short Reports and Notes

Short communications, data notes and technical notes with sufficient methods, data and interpretation to support their contribution.

Case Reports

Clinical observations with substantive antioxidant or redox relevance, appropriate consent and proportionate conclusions; a case report cannot establish general treatment efficacy.

Scholarly Discussion

Perspectives, commentaries and opinion pieces that critically address antioxidant or redox science and distinguish interpretation from established evidence.

Conference proceedings require format-specific arrangements with the editorial office. Historical archive labels do not automatically define an open submission category.

Before submission

A strong submission makes its design and analysis assessable and its interpretation proportionate. Apply the following checks to the methods actually used.

  • State the antioxidant, oxidative-stress or redox question clearly.
  • Describe the material, model, participants, exposure or source literature relevant to the study.
  • For laboratory activity studies, name the assay, endpoint, reference standard and units.
  • Report controls and replication, model validation, or bias assessment appropriate to the design.
  • Explain statistical methods, uncertainty and limitations.
  • Provide ethics approval, consent and registration where applicable.
  • For reviews, explain evidence selection; for protocols, provide the planned methodology and analysis.
  • Keep biological or health claims within the evidence level studied.

Editorial assessment and peer review

Authors should review the requirements and then use the journal's Submit Paper page, which routes manuscripts to ManuscriptZone.

Submissions are screened for scope, methodological clarity, reporting and research integrity. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions remain independent of article processing charges. There is no submission or review charge; an APC applies only after acceptance.
