Overview
Molecular and cellular proteomics encompasses the large-scale study of proteins within cells and tissues, including their structures, functions, interactions, and abundance patterns. Research published in Proteomics and Genomics Research addresses multiple dimensions of this field, from foundational methodologies to clinical applications. Studies have examined mass spectrometry-based approaches for protein discovery and quantification, including ion-current-based strategies and stable isotope labeling techniques using 15N SILAC in mouse models. The journal has published work on proteomic responses to targeted therapies such as lapatinib treatment, as well as investigations into tissue-specific protein profiles, including alveolar macrophage proteomes in transgenic models expressing human surfactant proteins. Additional research has explored bioinformatic integration of proteomic and genomic data for disease diagnosis and treatment, particularly in cancer and personalized medicine contexts. Studies have also applied label-free shotgun proteomics to diverse biological systems and investigated genetic polymorphisms affecting protein biomarkers in clinical populations. This body of work reflects the field's importance in bridging molecular-level protein characterization with translational applications in diagnostics, therapeutic monitoring, and understanding disease mechanisms at the cellular level.
