Overview

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine devoted to the preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic care of neonates, infants, children, and adolescents, encompassing physical, developmental, and behavioral health from birth through the transition to adulthood. The specialty is distinguished by its attention to growth and development, age-specific physiology and pharmacology, congenital and acquired disease, immunization, and the recognition that children are not simply small adults but require dosing, presentation, and management tailored to maturational stage. Its scope spans pediatric infectious disease, respiratory and neurological disorders, oncology, neonatology, and developmental and behavioral conditions. Research in this area examines outcomes after pediatric traumatic brain injury, the operation of high-volume immunization clinics, and respiratory infection through Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia and associated bronchoalveolar changes in children. Further work addresses diagnostically challenging presentations such as fever of unknown origin and reverse Shapiro's syndrome, structural neck masses including internal jugular phlebectasia, and pediatric nasopharyngeal carcinoma, alongside developmental and metabolic concerns including childhood overweight, autism and gluten- and casein-free dietary intervention, and obstructive sleep apnea in children with Down syndrome. These themes reflect the immunization, infectious and respiratory disease, neuro-oncology, and developmental dimensions of pediatric practice. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research spanning these clinical, preventive, and developmental aspects of child and adolescent health.
