The pharmaceutical industry is the global sector that researches, develops, manufactures, regulates and distributes medicines, vaccines and other therapeutic products used to prevent, diagnose and treat disease. It spans drug discovery and preclinical work, clinical trials, formulation chemistry, manufacturing and quality control, regulatory approval, pricing, and the supply and marketing of finished medicines, and it sits at the intersection of biomedical science, economics and public health policy.
