Overview
Policy implementation is the process of putting adopted policies into practice, translating decisions made by governments and organisations into concrete programmes, services, and actions, and then monitoring and evaluating their effects. It is a central concern of Implementation science, which studies the factors, strategies, and barriers that determine whether evidence-based policies and interventions are adopted, delivered as intended, and sustained in real-world settings. Effective implementation depends on resources, organisational capacity, stakeholder engagement, and the alignment of incentives, and it often reveals a gap between what a policy intends and what is achieved in practice. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research on how policies and evidence-based interventions are carried out and evaluated. Reported work examines the effects and trade-offs of a sugar-sweetened beverage tax, a roadmap toward tobacco-free policy, the barriers, facilitators, and strategies for implementing evidence-based occupational therapy, and the evaluation of quality improvement strategies in healthcare facilities. Related studies assess how changes in service delivery affect workload and access. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to policy implementation and the broader study of how policies and interventions are translated into practice.
