Overview
Medicine is the science and practice of diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease and of maintaining health, combining biological understanding with clinical care delivered to individual patients. Organised into many specialties, it rests on foundations in anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology while continually adopting new diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Viewed through an implementation lens, a central concern is how medical knowledge and proven interventions are translated into consistent, effective practice across settings and systems. The research collected here spans this continuum. The role of the basic sciences as the basis of clinical medicine is addressed directly, and human anatomy is framed as a gateway to medicine and surgery. Clinical and specialty contributions include hypertension management within sports and exercise medicine, heart failure in family practice, and the assessment of severe paediatric illness in emergency care, while practical methods for improving patient compliance speak to the realities of applying treatment. Emerging and integrative directions appear in work on regenerative and stem-cell therapies, on traditional Ayurvedic preparations, and on the prospects of genetic medicine, alongside methodological reflection on how research in general medicine should be conducted. Together these works express medicine's defining synthesis of mechanism and management, in which advances in understanding disease are repeatedly converted into improved strategies for diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.
