Overview

Fusarium is a large and widespread genus of filamentous fungi found in soil and on plants throughout the world. Many species are important plant pathogens that cause diseases affecting a wide range of crops, including wilts, rots, blights, and head scab, leading to substantial agricultural losses. Some Fusarium species produce mycotoxins that can contaminate grains and other foods and feeds, posing risks to human and animal health, while others have beneficial or industrial uses. The genus is also significant in medical mycology, as certain species can cause infections in humans, particularly in those with weakened immune systems. Because of their diversity and impact, Fusarium fungi are studied extensively in plant pathology, food safety, and microbiology. As a journal of Fungal Diversity, this title publishes peer-reviewed research relevant to Fusarium and other fungi, including a study on the influence of carbon and nitrogen supplements and pH on the growth of the sugarcane stem rot pathogen Fusarium solani, alongside related work on soil fungi, antifungal plant extracts, and fungal biology. These contributions reflect the journal's focus on the diversity, ecology, and effects of fungi. This page gathers open-access, peer-reviewed research relevant to Fusarium and its roles in plant disease, mycotoxin production, and fungal biology.
