Overview

Pathogenesis is the sequence of biological events and mechanisms through which a disease originates and develops, encompassing the etiologic trigger, the molecular and cellular alterations it provokes, and the structural and functional changes that produce clinical illness. It integrates genetic susceptibility, environmental exposures, immune and inflammatory responses, and metabolic and signaling derangements, and understanding it is fundamental to rational diagnosis, prevention, and targeted therapy. Mechanistic study of pathogenesis links specific molecular pathways to tissue injury, enabling identification of intervention points and biomarkers. Research relevant to this area spans the hematological disturbances and management of dengue hemorrhagic fever, the histologic, genetic, and molecular features of meningioma initiation and progression, bioinformatic analysis of single-nucleotide polymorphisms implicated in atherosclerosis, the molecular and metabolic basis of familial combined hyperlipidemia and metabolic syndrome, amino-acid contributions to liver-disease mechanisms, immune dysfunction in frailty, and the role of trace-element and contrast-agent toxicity in tissue damage. The journal publishes peer-reviewed work in Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology that examines how infectious, neoplastic, vascular, metabolic, and immunological processes give rise to disease, connecting laboratory and bioinformatic findings to the cellular and systemic basis of illness across organ systems and informing diagnostic interpretation and therapeutic strategy.
