Overview
Breast cancer is a malignancy that develops when cells in the breast tissue grow and divide uncontrollably, forming tumors that can invade surrounding tissue and spread to other parts of the body. It is the most common cancer among women worldwide, and early detection together with accurate diagnosis is central to effective treatment and improved survival. From the perspective of Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology, breast cancer is defined and stratified by histological examination, tumor grading, receptor status, and the assessment of features such as lymph-node involvement, all of which guide prognosis and therapy. Subtypes including triple-negative breast cancer carry distinct clinical behavior and treatment implications. Research in this area addresses the cellular and molecular characteristics of breast tumors, prognostic and histological variables, screening and diagnosis, and the biological mechanisms underlying tumor growth and metastasis. Studies relevant to this journal examine clinical prognostic variables for triple-negative breast cancer, including histological grading and lymph-node metastasis, the role of chemokines and the CXCR4 receptor in metastasis, the anticancer activity of compounds such as alendronate and damsin derivatives in breast cancer cells, risk factors and survival in patient cohorts, screening uptake, and the psychological dimensions of the disease, reflecting the pathological, diagnostic, and therapeutic facets of breast cancer.
