Overview

Pharmaceutical science and technology is the field concerned with the discovery, design, formulation, manufacture, analysis, and delivery of medicines for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. It unites scientific understanding of drug substances with the engineering and processing methods required to convert them into safe, stable, and effective products. Core domains include pharmaceutics and drug delivery, where dosage forms such as controlled- and delayed-release tablets are developed using polymeric and natural coating materials; pharmaceutical processing, including advanced techniques such as supercritical fluid technology for particle engineering, extraction, and formulation; and analytical science, where instrumental methods like liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry quantify active ingredients and characterize the physicochemical and thermal properties of materials. The field also bridges basic and translational research, moving laboratory findings toward clinical and industrial application. Quality control and reproducibility are central, since reliable formulation and accurate analysis underpin both efficacy and safety.
